Born in Alanici, Famagusta in 1930. Direkoglu taught as a teacher for two
years after graduating from the Teachers Training College. He then studied
arts at the Goldsmiths College, University of London, upon receiving a British
government scholarship.
He served as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture upon
returning to the island. In 1969 the artist received another scholarship,
this time from the French government, and studied arts at the Paris Academy
of Fine Arts at the Gustave Singier atelier for two years.
The artist also worked at the Cyprus Turkish State Theatres, Ministry of
Tourism, and at the North Cyprus London Representative Office. He participated
in many exhibitions in Cyprus, France, UK, and Turkey.
