The City of Famagusta, Cyprus

Mesarya (Mesaoria)

Beautiful Mesaryan plains
Beautiful Mesaryan plains in springtime

The Mesarya is a flat agricultural plain, broken by eucalyptus windbreaks, threaded by dry water courses and dotted with dozens of villages.

The Mesaryan landscape is enlivened in spring by thick gashes of red, blue and yellow, as weeds briefly dominate the young fields of wheat, and corn.

Many of the traditional mudbrick village houses are still standing in the Mesarya villa- ges. Most of the Mesaryan Plain is in the district of Famagusta.
